Mark Dimondstein

APWU Sisters and Brothers,

Over my many decades of union activism, from shop steward, local president, union organizer and negotiator and national president, I have held the fervent beliefs that the union belongs to the members, workers deserve dignity and respect, and the American people deserve a vibrant public Postal Service.

I am truly & deeply honored to serve as your elected president and to have led the APWU in making substantial progress over the last five  years.

Mark DimondsteinFrom the successful 2015 contract negotiations with major gains including increased job security, to the stunning Stop Staples hard- fought victory protecting thousands of our jobs, from the career conversion of 62,000 PSEs to the Stand Up for Safe Jobs campaign, from the building of A Grand Alliance to Save Our Public Postal Service, to leading the fight against postal privatization, all this shows a proven record of results, not empty promises.

There is, of course, more work to be done.

The APWU is in the battle for a new union contract and we are now heading into mediation and interest arbitration proceedings. As the lead negotiator of our national negotiations for the 2015-2018 Collective Bargaining Agreement, the union secured annual pay raises, protected our Cost of Living Allowances, created an all career maintenance workforce, established no sub-contracting of MVS driving work, achieved a moratorium on the expansion of retail contract units and improved benefits and conversions of PSEs - and much more. I will bring the same skills and determination to the upcoming interest arbitration for a new and good union contract.

We face the dual threats of a White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) plan to sell the public Postal Service combined with a Presidential Postal Task Force advocating an end to our collective bargaining rights. The APWU has now become the leading voice organizing and mobilizing against the selling of the public Postal Service to private corporations.

I am proud to be heading the APWU “Together We Win” Team with the dynamic leader of the NY Metro Area Local, Jonathan Smith, for Executive Vice-President, the outstanding incumbent Secretary Treasurer Elizabeth “Liz” Powell and Vance Zimmerman, the incumbent and extremely effective Industrial Relations Director -- as well as with a team of capable, credible and experienced leaders.

We have the experience, persistence and vision needed to keep the movement going, forge ahead, and win.

As we enter this election season I, and our team, pledge to continue to always put the members first. We welcome your ideas, your questions and respectfully seek your assistance and support.

Solidarity Forever!
